The Nineties were not a
kind decade to Bon Jovi. The Slippery When Wet
boys managed only a couple of underwhelming
records, while Jon Bon Jovi's career as an
indie-film actor ranks with Ethan Hawke's novel
and Fabio's album as a landmark of celebrity
hubris. |

Time seems to have stopped
around 1990 for Bon Jovi, which returns from a
six-year exile with an album that revs up
big-hair pop-rock anthems as timeless as they are
so, like, over. |

You don't have to be a rock
fan to understand that Bon Jovi's been on the
fast track to fame and fortune ever since its
1986 breakthrough, Slippery When Wet . |

On "Two Story
Town" ( RealAudio excerpt ), Jon Bon Jovi
voices an age-old complaint about the burg in
which he lives: "It's just the same old
sights and the same old sound/ Gonna take my car,
drive out of this two story town/ The same old
shit is going round/ I'm going down, down, down,
down, down .." However bad the place may be,
it's worth pointing out that this song is just as
full of enervated clichés as its subject matter. |
