WHITNEY HOUSTON NEWSBobby Brown Released From JailBobby Brown is a free man once more. The singer was released from Florida's North Broward Detention Center early today, after getting 10 days lopped off his stay for good behavior. Wife Whitney Houston, who was waiting to greet Brown in a white limousine, leapt into his arms. Meanwhile, comedian Chris Rock staged a candlelight vigil of supporters in a bit for his HBO television show. "I just want to be with my family and my friends," Brown told the Associated Press. "I'm going home to spend the summer with my kids and work on my life." In 1998, Brown spent five days behind bars and was placed on a year's probation after being convicted of drunken driving charges stemming from a 1996 accident. Last June, after his probation officer said the artist had tested positive for cocaine, a warrant was issued for the former New Edition member's arrest. He was apprehended in May at the Newark, N.J., airport while returning from the Bahamas with his family. On June 12, a Florida judge sentenced Brown to 75 days in the pen, after he pleaded guilty to the probation violation. However, since he'd already racked up 39 days behind bars between his arrest and sentencing, Brown was only slated to serve another 36. Reuters contributed to this report. |
